Focus on your goals. And don’t get caught focusing.

Alright, this time I’m back to blog for a longer period of time. End of the year is a great opportunity to make some New Year’s Resolutions. Do you plan any commitments for the coming year? For my part - personally I think I have two goals ;)

Attention, entirely new theme - Gutsy Gibbon!

Hello folks, after taking a little blog holidays I’m back, and I’m proud to announce that… Yes, I bring a brand new theme!

Screenshot

Things you should know about:

  • I wanted to make it clean & juicy, thankfully it looks like both of my goals were accomplished
  • It’s based on the frame of Wordpress theme made by Chinese buddy. Despite of the fact that this design doesn’t look that good, his code was pretty fine and adjusting it to all of my crotchets was trouble-free and quite comfortable
  • Choosing a good logo was the most challenging part of my work. Although I don’t have many problems in web design, every time when I need to develop a logotype I’m starting to realize that all of my GIMP know-how is not enough to make a good one. So I did a little research, checked few variants, and finally decided to use one of icons available in Tux’n'Tosh.
  • Color scheme comes from my favorite distribution of Linux, of course. In spite of all of my liking, I haven’t put Ubuntu logo into header section - it would be suggesting that author of that blog writes about Linux basically. As far as I know he doesn’t ;)

Okay, time to response to all of your recent comments & cut through the sea of unread items in Google Reader…

How many people use Firefox, Safari, Opera Browser?

firefox-eating-ie.jpg

Recently Opera’s market share increased from 0.87% to 0.99%, when I was discussing about it with a group of nerds (I really like Opera Browser and I’m always glad to see their progress ;) ), the nameless mental giant came and stated: “with only 1 percent of share Opera has no importance at all!“.

Dude… I wish you would know the number of all internet users at first!

Below you can see a chart that shows current Browser Market Share (provided by Net Applications). This is nice, but you can say you have seen similar ones coming in news many times before, so that’s nothing special. Ok, but in general all these charts have a little disadvantage - they don’t feed your imagination. So people are starting to think that Opera has only few users, and of course no one uses other browsers like Konqueror, K-Meleon, or any other. Fortunately, we possess some info about global internet usage…

browser-share.jpg

According to these numbers there are already around 1,244,449,601 people connected to the web (yes I know it looks amazingly, cannot see it in stats of my sites ;) ) - let’s calculate how many of them use respective browsers:

  • IE (around 969,052,904, one another chance to say “I hate Bill Gates!”)
  • Firefox (around 184,800,766, thanks to Google & their affiliates?)
  • Safari (around 62,844,705 - say hello to all users of Mac)
  • Opera (around 12,320,051)
  • Netscape (around 7,964,477)

Now you’ve got to know that Opera’s 1% is THAT much, and why social bookmarking version of Netscape.com was a success.

Update: This post received a great feedback. Don’t miss with the discussion taking place below - readers have added 50+ comments so far, and many of their writings are really worth-reading!

Florchakh Dot COM has been RE-NO-VA-TED!

wordpress.gif

Alright folks, there was no way for me to publish new stuff there recently BUT finally it looks like I have a little bit more free time now… And of course I’m gonna go back to my postings ;)

Wordpress theme has been modified once again - both header and sidebar were changed, also I removed all sucky adsense units from there. Wordpress installation was upgraded to the newest stable version - it was challenging indeed, I wonder how all the not-tech-savvy users cope with it…

PS Yes, font used for new logo comes from Ubuntu. If you wish you can download it there OR just use apt-get command listed below (only Ubuntu users 8) ):

apt-get install ttf-ubuntu-title

Daniela Peštová - Another Czech from Sports Illustrated

Today’s episode of Czech Chick Knockout Series should be dedicated to readers from the USA. Her name is Daniela Peštová, and as you can see in pictures, this kind of beauty is VERY comparable to comeliness presented by majority of American chicks. Below you can see few best photos I chose, if you’re looking for more there’s her gallery at Sports Illustrated.

Daniela is forth Czech model featured there, gotta speed it up ’cause Jorge already applied for giving some help with next series. If it was not a flash in the pan, next month there should appear another bunch of posts, this time featuring Portuguese chicks (meninas? ;) ) Read the rest of this entry »

Are you an affiliate sheep?

If you’re interested in affiliate stuff, you must be pretty angry on people that cut off your aff code just because they don’t like affiliate links. Some of them are retarded, some of them really believe that they can loose something when they click on your affiliate link, others are just pesky - do not mind it, at least they’re all only humans, and it’s understandable. But if you think you don’t have to be boiled, I’m afraid that you’re TOTALLY wrong. The only one that you need to be angry about is the guy that host your affiliate program. Yes, that means there’s a bunch of monkeys that make use of you every time you put a sucky affiliate link within a page.

aff-sheep.jpg

You say “wait, but I do make bucks on it!“, but you don’t make any money, in fact. Unless you have your own sheep herd that clicks, you don’t earn any bucks on affiliate marketing - all that you receive for participating in affiliate program is only a piece of sucky handout. Now answer a question - Do you really need to be used by batch of monkeys that make REAL money on it? You bring traffic to their offers, and in most cases you do it for FREE just because people don’t like to click on affiliate links. Don’t you respect your work? Do you really like to feel like a beggar?

Some of you know it well, for those who don’t - whatever stats you use (AWstats, Google Analytics, even poor Wordpress stats), you must notice that there’s always a smart list of Referring Sites available. And yeah, this is that simple to develop and include within all of affiliate programs that you participate in. There’s no need to hide affiliate links with JavaScript, redirects, iframes, or whatever.

There are LOTS of affiliate programs available, sadly at the moment I can see only two exceptions: Amazon (thanks to the way they create URLs your aff codes are difficult to remove) and TNX.net (their system is able to track all users coming from URL of a single page that you can enter in your panel).

BTW it would be really cool to use it for all pages, simply by adding domain names. Don’t you think so? ;)
