I’m back and ready to install Gutsy Gibbon!

After few days of silence finally I’m back. Despite of the fact that most of readers are not interested in reading about more personal stuff in general, there are few things worth to share in a post. This time it’s a piece of my software ramblings - finally I’ve upgraded my Ubuntu to Feisty Fawn (the newest stable release) through the standard system upgrade. You see, after every Linux installation my system is in a dramatical need of LOTS of fixes (it’s related to my hardware & personal habits), so I’m too lazy to keep the current version and keep digging in config files every time new version is released. Especially if paths of all these fixes change in time with the growth of system, forcing to seek on and on again.

This time I decided to give a try to automatic system upgrade and there’s a little surprise - my Ubuntu works as well as before, with no comparison to my previous Linux experience. That’s great - soon we will be able to ask people “why don’t you try Ubuntu” without being worried about number of possible problems they can get after removing M$ Windows from their hard drives.

Anyway, I’m ready to next upgrade ;)

Did you needed to configure any drivers?

    Hi Bart,

I wondered why you had not posted… your installation gone down the tubes has it ;-)

I don’t rush out for the latest release… I wait for the patches to be applied and the forums to fill up with solutions first!

Gutsy Gibbon is the best release name they have come up with so far ;-)

    Jorge: Nope :D

Jez: Unstable releases make LOTS of fun, especially in early days. What’s next, Hardy Heron? 8)

  4. Jez says:

    Happy Hedgehog ;-)

Hedgehog was already used for 5.04 release

Against my better judgment I hit the button… now PC does not shut down properly and my wifi does not work ;-)

Be contented, now you’ve got something to do with your system. Linux is not boring, isn’t it?

I’m gonna hit Gutsy Gibbon this weekend, at the moment I’m in need of a working system ;)

If you haven’t upgraded yet I would NOT DO IT.

I upgraded my laptop and still have errors with shut down… this is a very old bug listed with the kernel team… I dont know why it was introduced with this upgrade as I had no issues with previous versions…

I just upgraded a desktop at work and it crashed part way through upgrade… that install is completely trashed and I am about to re-install from scratch using a CD.

This is by far the worst upgrade I have seen with Ubuntu, I have done quite a lot….

Jez I upgraded few days ago and everything works fine. You must be totally out of the luck, especially if you notice some problems on two different computers (!). Anyway, I just hope that Hardy Heron will be more merciful to your stuff…

Okay, let’s say I was forced to fix one thing or two. Who cares ;)
