Today I found a chart depicting the evolution of web browsers. In this picture you can see a very interesting look at the past and how far we’ve come. For instance, I didn’t even know that Netscape Navigator is older than damn Internet Explorer. For those who cannot view Scalable Vector Graphics there’s a picture converted to the PNG format.

Honesty I’m afraid I haven’t even heard about 50 percents of all these applications (WebRunner / HotJava WTF?!). Awesome.
A few quotes from Digg:
- Netscape Navigator brings back horrible, horrible memories.
- I remember once counting the number of Netscape versions in the 90s and I stopped at around 350.
- I didn’t know SlipKnot made a web browser
- Great use of SVG!

The first web browser I stumbled upon was Netscape Navigator version 3. Some time later I got my first Internet Explorer on CD with “Fifth Element OST”. Now I use only Firefox, but in the past I also used Opera and K-meleon…

Yeah, Netscape is ancient! I never liked it. Version 7 was truly horrible.

Just cannot believe there was a time when Firefox was a sucky browser and Opera was unable to display correctly 40% of all available websites.
BTW check this out, it might be a nice flashback

Excellent find Bart. Where did you start you web browser lifecycle.
I first started with IE4 back in about 96-97, had a brief affair with netscape before switching to FF about 2 or years ago. I have quite a lot of converts under my belt too

I don’t remember the number of Internet Explorer added in Windows 95, just guess it was IE 3.0 (there was a support for mighty frames, surely). Let’s say the first conscious choice was an adware version of Opera 5.0 (December 2000?
)
