Spamming is FAR AWAY from being EASY, too

Surprisingly, common users of internet seem to believe that every spammer is a hopeless little sucker that after failing all other opportunities, decides to choose the evil side of force and finally starts to spam. Of course they are wrong - spamming is not easy. And developing new scripts for spams is a very challenging piece of work, in fact.

Try to answer a simple question - what do you think about when you hear these two words - “spam sites“? Do you think about all these pages filled with content scraped from your blog? Or maybe about SEO directories? Guestbooks, song lyrics, any other automatically generated crap designed for use of Google AdSene?

Alright, there’s a little hint:

I guess you still cannot figure it out so take a look at the stats:

  • 17,000 of pages indexed in Google (not many of them listed in Supplemental Index)
  • almost 22,000 subscribers of RSS feed
  • site was bookmarked 505 times in Del.icio.us
  • Google PageRank: 5

Welcome to the Flickrbabes - my favorite spam site in the world. Generated automatically with script (or manually, by human?) scrapping content from Flickr. Proudly powered by Wordpress, 30-40 new posts are published every single day. Any conclusions? Soon there should be one another post in this topic ;)

I own one such site. With crippled funcionality, because WordPress can’t handle over 2,000 categories. I had to remove autogenerated category tree and substitute it with static links. I can’t even delete those categories, ’cause WP tries to use over 16MB of allowed memory…

2,000 categories? Your script is in a dramatical need of a major upgrade, I think.

For now massive deletion of categories from phpMyAdmin does the job, but for later I’ll have to do something. By myself, because the plugin’s author doesn’t support it…

As I wrote above there will be one another post. It looks like you do need to learn programming, there’s no other way to spam successfully. Think twice, maybe spending few weeks on learning PHP will be much more effective than any Wordpress plugins. One of them was written by 13 years old!

I think you need tags. Not categories. Wordpress was not designed to handle that many categories.
