Alright folks, it’s obvious that you all do use Google to check your rankings. The question is - do you enjoy standard Google’s searcher for the personal use? You know what I mean, doing a common search for music bands, movies, books or whatever you need. I guess you already got into all these pretty AJAX powered Web 2.0 apps, so why most of you are still using the searcher which does have an interface that seems to be dead from the neck up?
This post is about my favorite web search service - SearchMash. For those of you who haven’t heard about it (service is available from October, 2006), there’s a quote:
SearchMash lets you search the internet in new ways. It is constantly evolving as we come up with ideas and figure out what works and what doesn’t. Check back here from time to time to see what has changed, and also to tell us which ones are useful to you. Please bear with us when the site is unavailable as we are limiting its use.
Searchmash features in short:
- Start typing (you don’t need to click in the search box to start typing a query)
- Hide details (something for fans of Reddit, when used there are only headers)
- Search a specific website (one click on the green URL to see all results from a website)
- Other types of results (definitely the best one, you can choose from Images, Blogs, Videos and Wikipedia)
Also I can add that videos are playable straight from the search results. Surmise you won’t be surprised if I disclose SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc.

Not really, that’s the first time I heard this name.
At the moment I went to their page and tried to search for something. I found:

I’ve just checked it and at the moment the service is working good. It must be your lucky day, to be honest I don’t even remember any other downtimes
