No, this post is not about Live Earth show. I just want to show the most interesting Africa domain extensions. They are pretty expensive, but surely it won’t be too much for someone who gonna start another web business with a nice domain name. Some of these extensions are much more interesting than a bunch of .net and .info domains, especially when all interesting names are already registered by damn domain money makers. Also, there’s a great opportunity to play with syllables like Del.icio.us or other Blo.gs do
- .dj (Djibouti, my favortie one, USD 175,00)
- .ly (Libya, USD 350,00)
- .cm (Cameroon, very interesting for “traffic takeoff artists”, USD 600,00)
- .bi - (Burundi, USD 450 ,00)
- .re - (Reunion, USD 300,00)
- .mr (Mauritania, USD 300,00)
- .cd (Congoo, Republic of Congo, USD 250 and USD 450,00)
- .jo (Jordan, USD 550,00)
- .ma (Marocco, USD 400,00)
- .ps (Palestine, available soon)
UPDATE:
Hadi reported that registering .ly domain costs much less in other company (Libyan Spider Network), so if someone is really going to buy, doing a comprehensive search with Google is highly recommended.

Jordan is not in Africa

Of course I totally agree with you, Hadi. It’s Middle East and many people have a habit to classify all these countries as African. So they are included in this offer as African, not as Asian ones. Thanks for notice, I haven’t thought about it
In offer I mentioned above registration of .ly domain name costs 350 USD, thanks a lot for your URL. Soon I’ll update this post!

I hope no one goes and registers this domain after posting this, because I might like it for myself one day. At one point I was eying up the domain name http://www.ht.ml the extension for Mali in West Africa. Another I wanted to snap up was http://www.do.om, but unfortunatly you can only get .om.com.

I don’t understand why some countries just want to keep the crowd away from registering domain names within their base extensions, co.uk might be a good example. I must go into the matter and find out why. Just can’t believe it’s only a quirk

Who knows? I checked and the .ml extension is only available to people in Mali. I also checked some government hijacking oppertunities. For example you can register http://www.gov.cd or http://www.gov.ly to go up against Gaddafi.
